Gray Sanders is one of two Florida Bar Board Certified Workers' Compensation attorneys at Barbas Nunez Sanders Butler & Hovsepian — a credential held by fewer than 200 attorneys in Florida. He has practiced workers' compensation and personal injury law on both sides of the table, and that dual perspective is the foundation of how he approaches every case he handles today.


When Gray evaluates a workers' compensation claim, he is not guessing at what the carrier will argue. He has made those arguments. He knows which cases insurers decide to fight, how they build their defense, and where their strategy is most vulnerable. That knowledge — applied now on behalf of claimants — is a concrete advantage in contested cases.


His practice also extends into federal maritime law. As the firm expands its Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act practice, Gray handles LHWCA claims for port and maritime workers whose injuries are governed by federal statute rather than Florida's state workers' compensation system. Port Tampa Bay is in his jurisdiction. The workforce there has federal rights that most Florida workers' comp attorneys are not equipped to pursue. Gray is.

Background & Credentials

Gray earned a Bachelor of Arts from Washington & Lee University in 1985 — where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges & Universities — and completed a term of study at St. John's College, Oxford University in 1983. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida in 1989, where he served as a senior research editor for the Florida International Law Journal, competed on the Jessup International Moot Court Team, and was selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among American Law Students. He later attended the University of Virginia Law School Trial Advocacy Institute in 2002.
