Jimmie Butler was born and raised in Tampa and has spent his entire legal career in Hillsborough County — in the same courts, before the same judges, and on behalf of the same community he grew up in. He joined Barbas Nunez Sanders Butler & Hovsepian early in the firm's history and has been a cornerstone of its workers' compensation practice ever since.


Workers' compensation law in Florida is technical, deadline-driven, and shaped by years of case law that experienced practitioners know and newer attorneys are still learning. The patterns that trip up other attorneys are familiar ground for Jimmie. When a carrier disputes a claim, delays authorized medical care, or challenges a claimant's disability rating, his knowledge of how those disputes are typically resolved — and what evidence moves them in the claimant's favor — is often the difference between a fair outcome and an inadequate one.

Background & Credentials

Jimmie earned a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from the University of Tampa in 1988 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida in 1993 — where he was a recipient of the Order of the Barrister, the American Jurisprudence Book Award in both Trial Practice and Workers' Compensation, and served as associate policy editor for the Journal of Law and Public Policy. He was president of the University of Florida Trial Team in Spring 1991 and vice president in Fall 1990, and was a member of the national championship team in the 1991 American Trial Lawyers Association Student Trial Competition as well as the state champion team in the 1990 Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers Intrastate Mock Trial Competition.
